I love a good cut-out because they show just enough skin to get the conversation started-and I love to talk.

As a form of self-care I do my best to stay off of Instagram in the morning (too many temptations to shop)!  But, during an unusual break in my morning routine, I found myself on the ‘gram, doing a good ol’ scroll. I was stopped in my tracks by a  beautiful pastel-colored piece with statement shoulders and ruffles down the front. It was all of the Spring 2021 trendy realness I could want. Fabulous! Then it dawned on me—this is trending right now! For as long as I have been alive I have been plus size, and while I have loved fashion, it has not loved me back ! But it looks like that is all changing and I’m here for it.

Historically, fashion trends have come from the top down. High-end designers debut their lines on runways around the world during fashion week and then retailers scramble to recreate those trends in more affordable ways for the masses. While in plus-size fashion those trends often don’t circulate until two seasons later (what in the heck is that about-really?)! Fortunately with all of the groundbreaking change and budding inclusivity in fashion over the past decade, plus-size women no longer have to wait for on-trend pieces to be made in our size. Plus-size fashion is coming from the grassroots ground up as indie brands like Love Fool work to expand customer selections in real time. So in celebration of fashion moving forward here are my top 5 easy-to-wear Spring/Summer 2021 trends that you can rock right now-while they are actually trending.

Making A Major Statement

To quote the epic words of Eric B and Rakim – “I came through the door, I said it before” (anyone else into ‘80s hip-hop)? Anyway, the point is the ‘80s are here to stay! From grandiose shoulder pads on Spring/Summer 2021 runways to acid wash denim now in stores, the glamour of the ‘80s fashion scene is here and it makes sense. After being locked inside during a quarantine, we all want to go-big in whatever ways we can. Complete with statement sleeves and shoulder pads this plus-size teddy coat is right on trend. It’s a warm lightweight layer that looks fantastic with bootcut jeans and chunky flats. And in classic grey, you can wear this piece with everything.

Hanging  Loose

While I don’t anticipate seeing a day where the plus-size skinny jean has gone out of style, there is a new contender vying for top spot. The wide-leg pant is making a swift comeback – I’m geeked out about it! This trend mirrors the new-found lifestyle of comfort that we all embraced in 2020, which makes sense. Whether they are jeans, tailored pants or in a cozy yummy fabric made for loungewear, wide-leg pants add a level of flare to everything. Gliding across the floor in a pair of wide-leg pants is an easy win when it comes to effortless style. Pair these pants with your favorite tee, a cropped sweater or a bralette—the outfit possibilities are endless.

A Hole In One

I love a good cut-out because they show just enough skin to get the conversation started-and I love to talk. This trend is easy for any and everyone because there are so many ways to wear it. Show off your neckline and shoulders with the shoulder cutout, or the more daring amongst us can accentuate cleavage with a cut-out across the chest. After a winter at home, showing some skin will be a very welcome change.

Pretty In Pastels

It’s no surprise that pastel colors are trending. The anticipation of warmer weather brings optimism of brighter days and these syrupy sweet sorbet colors say it all. You can find a complementary color for any skin tone in this palette. Head-to-toe pastels never looked so good. The midi dress with ruching offers a relaxed yet chic way to sport this trend in stretch gauzy material that glides over the body. Style it with a white plus-size denim jacket and white boots for the quintessential spring look. On The Color Block

According to Who What Wear, any black-and-white pieces are worth the investment because the color palette is timeless. Get creative by pairing this colorblock plus-size wrap top with a colorful pant. Or keep it minimal by going for a piece like the white tunic shirt with black piping. I love this plus-size top especially because it doubles as a tunic and a dress-oversized shirting is another classic style making a comeback for Spring/Summer 2021. Style it with a black plus-size leather jacket and black chunky boots for more classic style.
