But this isn\u2019t really a conversation about what\u2019s \u201cin.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It\u2019s about what happens when an old trend meets a new version of you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Fall has always been good at inspiring a very specific version of ourselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The first cool morning arrives and suddenly the sweaters come out. Boots feel necessary again. A jacket becomes the all-important third piece. We want texture, layers, loafers, plaid and something warm to hold while walking around pretending we have nowhere in particular to be.<\/p>\n\n\n\n For Marge, getting sweaters back after summer feels like \u201ca hug from a great friend you haven\u2019t seen in a long time.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n And this year, that reunion comes with another familiar feeling: Haven\u2019t we worn some of this before?<\/p>\n\n\n\n Liz remembers her plaid-heavy era. Maloree will happily wear her riding boots every fall regardless of what anyone declares \u201cin\u201d or \u201cout.\u201d Marge is seeing polos and collared knits that immediately bring her back to the mid-2000s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Then there\u2019s Liz\u2019s army-green anorak.<\/p>\n\n\n\n She wore it constantly around 2014, usually with the unofficial uniform of the era: black leggings, Uggs and, naturally, an infinity scarf.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The jacket stayed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The outfit around it changed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This fall, she\u2019s imagining that same anorak with wide-leg or barrel pants instead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n That may be the simplest way to understand a returning trend: the piece can be the same without the outfit\u2014or the person wearing it\u2014being the same.<\/p>\n\n\n\n There\u2019s an easy tendency to see a trend from our past and immediately remember everything we associate with wearing it the first time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Sometimes that memory is fun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Sometimes it\u2019s somewhere closer to: absolutely not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n But a trend coming back doesn\u2019t actually send us back in time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n While talking about corduroy making its way into her shopping cart again, Marge points out that she now has another 15 or 20 years of confidence and life experience behind her. Something that once made her feel like a \u201cposer\u201d can land completely differently today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Maloree had a similar experience with a baby-doll-style dress layered over a white tee. At first, the outfit transported her straight back to middle school. Then she realized she wasn\u2019t recreating a middle-school outfit at all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n She was wearing the grown-up version.<\/p>\n\n\n\n And, importantly, she had the confidence to wear something now that she hadn\u2019t felt confident enough to try then.<\/p>\n\n\n\n That\u2019s what makes fashion nostalgia more interesting than simply repeating an old outfit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The clothes may circle back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n We get to meet them as entirely different people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n So what\u2019s catching everyone\u2019s attention for Fall 2026?<\/p>\n\n\n\n Texture is a big one. Suede and suede-like finishes are showing up across jackets and other pieces, bringing a softer, richer feeling to fall dressing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Pants are also getting more interesting. Alongside the wide-leg silhouettes that have been around for several seasons, Liz is especially excited about track-inspired pants that can move between casual and more polished styling, plus refreshed utility shapes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Then there\u2019s the evolution of the matching set.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Sets may have become synonymous with comfort dressing a few years ago, but newer versions feel much more considered: different fabrications, more shape and pieces that work just as well separately as they do together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n That last part matters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n A set doesn\u2019t have to stay a set.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Wear both pieces together. Pair the top with your favorite jeans. Take the pant somewhere completely different. For travel in particular, two coordinating pieces that also play well with the rest of your closet can do a surprising amount of work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Denim is another easy place to experiment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Liz has been loyal to her barrel jeans, but this season she\u2019s venturing into a flare with crochet detailing down the sides\u2014very much outside her usual denim comfort zone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Her verdict?<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThis is me trying something different. And I\u2019m very excited.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Trying something different does not mean rebuilding your wardrobe around it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In fact, one of the easiest ways to experiment with Fall 2026 fashion is to change exactly one thing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Interested in a top that feels different from your usual style? Wear it with the jeans you trust most.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Curious about another denim silhouette? Keep the shirt and shoes familiar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Want to see whether a trend works for you? Try it before deciding what your opinion is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n While discussing a pair of jeans she\u2019d normally pass over, Marge lands on one of the simplest ideas of the episode:<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThat may not be me, but it could be.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n There\u2019s a lot of room between \u201cI would never wear that\u201d and \u201cthis is my entire personality now.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n You can just be curious.<\/p>\n\n\n\n You may not even need something new.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Liz brings up the \u201cwrong shoe theory\u201d: instead of finishing an outfit with the shoe that seems most obvious, deliberately choose the unexpected one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n A sundress with a lug-sole loafer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n A party dress with a sneaker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Something polished with something a little tougher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Changing one element can make clothes you already own feel completely different\u2014and let you experiment with a newer styling idea without buying an entirely new outfit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It\u2019s also a useful reminder that trends don\u2019t only live in individual products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Sometimes what feels current is simply the way familiar pieces are being put together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Underneath all of the talk about plaid, pants, suede, old jackets and questionable early-aughts choices is a much bigger idea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Style should give us room to have an opinion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n There are enough areas of life with serious stakes, hard rules and things outside our control. Getting dressed can be one of the places where we get to play.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Try the trend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Skip the trend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Love how it looks on someone else and decide it isn\u2019t coming home with you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Wear a T-shirt and jeans because that\u2019s exactly what feels like you today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Pull something out of the back of your closet and discover you like it more now than you did ten years ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Personal style doesn\u2019t need to be perfectly consistent, either.<\/p>\n\n\n\n As Marge puts it in the episode, it\u2019s okay if your style is \u201ca little bit of this and that and this and that.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n That\u2019s how it should be.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This week\u2019s SOS starts with an anniversary trip\u2014but underneath it is a much bigger style transition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n An anonymous listener recently retired from a career in a hospital, where she spent years wearing a uniform. At home, she typically lives in pajamas, shorts and tanks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Now she and her husband are celebrating their 28th anniversary with an Arizona staycation, including a farm-to-table lunch and an indoor music event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n She wants something fresh and fun. Casual, but put together. Comfortable, but still cool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The bigger question may not be \u201cWhat should I wear for my anniversary?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n It may be: Now that I get to choose, what do I actually want to wear?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n After years of having work clothes decided for you, retirement can create an unexpected wardrobe reset.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Liz suggests starting with versatile separates: a pair of white or light pants, an elevated set that can be mixed and matched, or an updated wrap-style top.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Marge gravitates toward easy wide-leg linen-inspired pants with a relaxed top, an intentional sandal and accessories\u2014or a breezy midi dress that keeps the ease of a sundress while offering a little more length.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Maloree takes the most experimental route: keep those shorter sundresses in rotation by layering one over wide-leg jeans, turning a familiar piece into something entirely new.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Different answers, same idea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n She doesn\u2019t need to adopt a completely new fashion identity because she retired.<\/p>\n\n\n\n She gets to build a wardrobe around the life she actually gets to live now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The easiest way into a new season isn\u2019t necessarily buying everything that\u2019s trending.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Sometimes it\u2019s seeing your own closet differently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Maybe that means bringing back the jacket you almost donated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Maybe it\u2019s trying a pant shape you\u2019ve never considered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Maybe it\u2019s finally giving suede a chance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Maybe it\u2019s wearing a favorite dress with the \u201cwrong\u201d shoe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Or maybe you\u2019d rather have someone else introduce a few possibilities you wouldn\u2019t have picked for yourself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Fall Preview Box<\/a><\/strong> is one way to explore that idea with a stylist. Liz<\/strong> It does seem to be\u2014I will take the blame\u2014it does seem to be my technology that\u2014
Maloree<\/strong> Yeah.
Liz<\/strong> \u2014fails us time and time again, but we’re here and we’re ready.
Marge<\/strong> We are ready, and we are going to be talking about some fun fall trends and fall style in particular. And I’m very excited about it because not only is it my favorite season of the year to dress\u2014how about you folks?
Maloree<\/strong> A hundred percent.
Marge<\/strong> Yeah.
Maloree<\/strong> Fall is my time to shine.
Marge<\/strong> Yes, yes, yes.
Liz<\/strong> I’m just always so excited for that first time I can pull on a cozy sweatshirt. I mean, I don’t think there’s\u2014
Maloree<\/strong> Uh-huh.
Marge<\/strong> Yes.
Liz<\/strong> \u2014any better feeling in the world.
Marge<\/strong> I feel like reuniting with my sweaters after, like\u2014
Liz<\/strong> Yes.
Marge<\/strong> \u2014a\u2014it feels like a family reunion or, like\u2014
Liz<\/strong> I love it.
Maloree<\/strong> Mm-hmm.
Marge<\/strong> \u2014a hug from a great friend you haven’t seen in a long time. And I’m like, my God, I’ve missed you so much. I can’t\u2014
Liz<\/strong> Exactly.
Marge<\/strong> \u2014wait to tell you about all the drama that’s happened.
Liz<\/strong> Hahaha.
Marge<\/strong> And yeah, so fall, and I am officially back in New York City, baby.
Liz<\/strong> Love to see it.
Marge<\/strong> Yes, yes. And I am glad to be back, especially because while I was there, I got invited to my 20th high school reunion. And I said, absolutely not. I have to get the F out of here. And I will, unfortunately, be out of town that weekend. So\u2014
Liz<\/strong> Aw, too bad, so sad.
Maloree<\/strong> It’s\u2014
Marge<\/strong> Boohoo. So I will not be there. But it made me think, especially spending so much time, like, in my childhood home and back sort of doing so many of the things that I haven’t done in 20 years. I was sort of thinking about fashion and style. And then, in addition, I was shopping a lot because when I left, I didn’t really bring much with me. And so I’ve had to do a lot of shopping and prepping and stuff just for regular fall life at Dia & Co., and I’m seeing some trends that feel awfully familiar to the early aughts and the millennium. And I’m a little scared, but also kind of excited.
Liz<\/strong> It’s a balance, I think, for sure. I will say it makes me feel old. So\u2014
Marge<\/strong> Yeah.
Liz<\/strong> \u2014let’s start with that grounding. But\u2014
Marge<\/strong> Yeah.
Liz<\/strong> \u2014at the same time, it’s amazing how quickly I’m seeing styles that I feel like I’ve seen in the past and being like, there’s a little bit of comfort there and recognition. And I know how to wear that and how to make it feel like me. I definitely, I would say, in the early aughts, went through a heavy plaid phase.
Marge<\/strong> Wow.
Liz<\/strong> Maybe not so much in the preppy way, more in the grungy way, or in the sort of, I don’t know, more tomboy way, I guess I would describe it. And I will just say, I feel like for a solid 18 months, I always had plaid tied around my waist or my neck, depending on the season. And so to see\u2014
Marge<\/strong> I love that.
Liz<\/strong> \u2014some of those plaid patterns come back, again, not so much in the preppy Ralph Lauren way, which I also appreciate, but different, but in maybe, like, accessories and pieces that have some texture. I don’t know, I’m excited to\u2014I saw a plaid baby-doll dress the other day that I was like, hmm, I could wear that with some combat boots and\u2014and sort of\u2014
Marge<\/strong> Yeah.
Liz<\/strong> \u2014live out my grungy fantasies again. That’s cute. So I’m excited for that.
Marge<\/strong> I’m never mad at a\u2014never mad at a plaid. Never. I’ve always\u2014
Liz<\/strong> Yeah. Yeah.
Marge<\/strong> \u2014been in my plaid era, and I’m\u2014I’m always here for it. And I do like the, like, modern, like, beyond just a plaid button-up shirt, like the traditional kind of L.L.Bean, like, dad shirt or boyfriend shirt.
Liz<\/strong> Mm-hmm.
Marge<\/strong> It is really, really fun to see it in, like, ultra-feminine ways. I have a really\u2014
Liz<\/strong> Yeah.
Marge<\/strong> \u2014fun plaid, like, red plaid blouse that I bought last year, which is kind of out of the silhouettes that I normally wear. But\u2014
Liz<\/strong> Hmm.
Marge<\/strong> \u2014I’m\u2014I’m really excited to try it because I didn’t get a chance to wear it last year. So I’m excited to\u2014to break it out and\u2014and wear it this year. But\u2014
Liz<\/strong> Yeah.
Marge<\/strong> \u2014I’m loving this time of year for textures. It’s, like, the feel-good season, where you have the knits, the waffles, the just really, like, cozy comfort pieces.
Liz<\/strong> Mm-hmm.
Marge<\/strong> And I’m\u2014I’m thrilled to sort of touch and feel all the clothes. I very much enjoy sort of, like, things that don’t feel scratchy and things that just feel really co\u2014like, cozy. And\u2014
Liz<\/strong> You\u2014
Marge<\/strong> \u2014I’m seeing a lot of that. I think the, like, cable-knit\u2014what is it? The When Harry Met Sally, like, Harry cable-knit sweater will always be a trend. Yeah, yeah.
Liz<\/strong> The fisherman sweaters. Oh my goodness, yes.
Marge<\/strong> And basically, like, all of those movies too, I think, inspired so much of fashion that era then, and so much of that is coming back as well. It’s like a nostalgia nod.
Liz<\/strong> It’s funny that you say that. We watched Practical Magic last weekend\u2014
Marge<\/strong> Ooh.
Liz<\/strong> \u2014sort of in preparation for the release of Practical Magic 2. And while I believe it was made in ’98, so long time ago, very different period of time, but I swear, whether it was the fashion or the interior design, it was something that felt so real for right now.
Marge<\/strong> Yeah.
Liz<\/strong> I mean, obviously, they were talking on, like, weird cell phones. We’re like\u2014
Maloree<\/strong> Ha ha ha.
Liz<\/strong> \u2014the technology, maybe not so much. But, like, I mean, slip dresses and\u2014
Marge<\/strong> Yeah.
Liz<\/strong> \u2014talk about texture and the lace and the boots and the play of hard and soft. And then this kitchen that they’re in, I just was like, bring it. This could be happening right now, and I would be all here.
Marge<\/strong> I want that house.
Liz<\/strong> I know, I know, I know.
Marge<\/strong> Yeah, absolutely. I l\u2014I like that, that, like, grungy kind of mix\u2014
Liz<\/strong> Yeah.
Marge<\/strong> \u2014of, of the, like, feminine and masculine. And I, I, I think that that’s also something that we’re seeing a lot in the recent years and\u2014and sort of even, even more, like, men wearing kilts and\u2014and layering longer dresses and\u2014and things into style, but also women\u2014
Liz<\/strong> Let’s move.
Marge<\/strong> \u2014really crushing the workwear and menswear is just really, really fun. I, I always\u2014
Liz<\/strong> Yeah.
Marge<\/strong> \u2014sort of go that route too. And it’s\u2014I have quite a few blazers that I love to bring out every fall and, before it gets too cold, make sure that they get plenty of airtime and\u2014and have fun playing with.
Liz<\/strong> Yeah.
Marge<\/strong> Maloree, in Texas, how d\u2014what does fall look like in terms of style? It doesn’t get much cooler.
Maloree<\/strong> No. It\u2014I mean, we get\u2014I\u2014it just takes us a lot longer to get there. Like, you were\u2014
Liz<\/strong> And\u2014
Maloree<\/strong> \u2014wearing a sweatshirt this morning. It’s still, like, 102 degrees right now. So, like\u2014
Marge<\/strong> Yikes.
Maloree<\/strong> \u2014even the thought of a sweatshirt makes me sweat. But I definitely\u2014we\u2014I personally, and I think a lot of people down here, do a lot of layering because it’s definitely one of those, like, it’s really cold in the morning and in the evenings, but during the day, it’s nice outside. Like, you don’t want to be in super heavy. So I always reach for a lot of, like, light jackets over a sweater or even just, like, a button-up shirt over something a little\u2014
Marge<\/strong> Yeah.
Maloree<\/strong> \u2014bit thicker is, like, my go-tos every fall.
Marge<\/strong> I love that. I love that. Do you\u2014do either of you have, like, a go-to fall uniform or maybe a piece that\u2014or an outfit that you bring back every year, or pieces that are your, like, go-tos every fall? Sort of trendless or always on trend?
Maloree<\/strong> I\u2014mine are\u2014yeah, mine are definitely my boots. I have a pair of riding\u2014
Marge<\/strong> Yeah.
Liz<\/strong> Hmm.
Maloree<\/strong> \u2014boots that, literally, I don’t care if somebody says they’re out of style, I will wear them every single fall because they are just fall to me. And sweaters, like, I have\u2014
Marge<\/strong> Mm.
Maloree<\/strong> \u2014a few sweaters that I’ve had for literally probably five or six years now that I still wear because they’re so soft. Probably need to retire a couple of them because they’ve got holes and stuff, but I also can’t let go of them. So we’ll see. Yeah.
Marge<\/strong> You also probably know how to patch them pretty nicely, so\u2014
Liz<\/strong> Maloree, jack of all trades.
Marge<\/strong> Yeah, yeah. They last forever. Yeah.
Maloree<\/strong> Mm-hmm.
Liz<\/strong> I am a pretty big fan, like, in my life in general, of a third piece. And I really struggle with a third piece during the summer because it’s just so hot, and I tend to be in as few clothes and accessories as possible. And so, for fall, it really does, for me, like, mark the return of the third piece. So whether it’s, like Maloree was saying, like, a heavier button-up, like\u2014I love a real chambray, but, like, leaning towards denim top, or, like, sort of more of, like, a\u2014something between, like, a jacket, like a shacket, I guess, a lightweight jacket, or, like, a handkerchief tied around my neck, or a vest, or a cardigan, like, whatever it is. I love that third piece. And so being able to bring that back in fall is always something that I look forward to. Also, I love bringing back non-sandal shoes.
Maloree<\/strong> Mm-hmm.
Liz<\/strong> So I’m still trying to figure out what my shoe this fall is going to be, but I recently started wearing, like, my clogs again because it’s just been too hot to wear anything other than, like, true Birkenstocks or flip-flops or whatever. So… going through my sneaker collection, going through sort of some of my favorites and my clogs, and eventually loafers. Really, I need a new pair of loafers this year, I think. I want, like, a broken-in pair of loafers very badly. But yeah, those are some of the things.
Marge<\/strong> Ooh. That should be\u2014that should be an added service. Like, you can have someone break\u2014
Liz<\/strong> Yeah, can you break in my loafers?
Marge<\/strong> \u2014yeah. Yeah.
Liz<\/strong> Seriously, I think they’re gonna have to be, like, you know, resale. I think I’m gonna have to do it and find a great pair of resale loafers. So I’ll keep you posted on that search.
Marge<\/strong> Great idea. That’s a great idea. I know, I live\u2014I live in loafers. It’s\u2014it’s funny. I\u2014it’s not that I struggle with shoes in fall. I think there’s a lot of options, but the, like, transition of in-between, like, how soon can I put on my boots? Because\u2014
Liz<\/strong> Exactly.
Marge<\/strong> \u2014I, I invested in a really good pair of Chelsea boots, like lug-sole, chunky Chelsea boots, a couple years ago that are very well made and super comfortable, that I could wear every day of the week and could dress it up\u2014like, dress them up, dress them down, like, wear them with almost every outfit. And so I rotate between those, a pair of loafers, and, like, a pair of sneakers. And then I’m done. And\u2014
Liz<\/strong> Nice.
Marge<\/strong> \u2014that feels so different for me because I love shoes and I have a lot of shoes, but yet, like, I feel like I have so many that I don’t actually wear as often as I probably should. But I\u2014
Liz<\/strong> Same.
Marge<\/strong> \u2014I do love\u2014I do love a good\u2014a good loafer. I think, for fall, the third piece, absolutely. I think that’s one of my weaknesses. I have far too many jackets, and you typically can only\u2014
Liz<\/strong> Mm-hmm.
Marge<\/strong> \u2014wear one jacket at a time. But I do love a layer and that, like, third-piece layer. And there’s so many ways to play with that. And I, I think that really, like, can take an outfit in so many different directions. So I\u2014I’m right there with you. I’m trying to limit myself to, like, one jacket purchase for the year. Like, I’m allowed one, and so I have to make the decision. I don’t need one, but, like\u2014
Liz<\/strong> Right.
Marge<\/strong> \u2014I know it can get out of hand very quickly. And so, last year and the year before, I tried to say, okay, I’m not buying a jacket until, like, later on in the winter or the season, where I know for sure I’ve seen all of the options out there and I can make my decision. Because typically, I buy one around this time of year, and then new styles come out. And then, like, mid-October, I’m like, God, I love this one. I have to find this one.
Liz<\/strong> Yeah.
Marge<\/strong> And then I end up with, like, three wool coats and many lightweight jackets that I don’t\u2014don’t wear. So I’ve\u2014I’ve done a good job of\u2014of holding the line there and\u2014and not going crazy. My other weakness is sweaters. I could wear sweaters all day, every day.
Liz<\/strong> Speaking about jackets, though, in particular\u2014and I guess this applies to sweaters too\u2014I just think of a jacket, at least for me\u2014well, I don’t know. Sometimes I feel like they’re more investment pieces. But, like, if you’re hanging on to them, which I have a very\u2014
Marge<\/strong> Yeah.
Liz<\/strong> \u2014hard time getting rid of things. So if you’re hanging on to them, I think jackets are a really good example of, like, what is old is new again. And, like\u2014
Marge<\/strong> Sure.
Liz<\/strong> \u2014especially this year, whether it’s bomber jackets or, like, Maloree, we were talking offline before, like, our army-green anorak jacket. I\u2014
Maloree<\/strong> Mm-hmm.
Liz<\/strong> \u2014do not know why I held onto my anorak, except that, like, I probably wore it every day in 2014. But, like, I’m so glad I held onto it because I will definitely be wearing it this fall. I might add some patches, or I might\u2014I don’t know. I’m gonna wear it with different\u2014I’m not gonna be wearing it with black leggings anymore, which is what I used to do. I’ll be wearing it with my black\u2014
Maloree<\/strong> Ha ha ha.
Liz<\/strong> \u2014wide-leg pants instead, or my barrel pants.
Marge<\/strong> Leggings and your Uggs and a chunky scarf and your anorak jacket\u2014
Liz<\/strong> Exactly.

Liz<\/strong> And don’t forget my pumpkin spice latte, but I\u2014

Liz<\/strong> \u2014will definitely be wearing that jacket, just styled in a very different way. And so I’m glad it’s still in my closet. And it’s not just that jacket. Like, I have a bomber jacket that I haven’t worn in years that I am counting down the days so I can wear again. And some blazers that I think, you know, Marge, to what you were saying about menswear, like, for a while there, I was, like, not wearing my more structured blazers. I was, like, leaning towards a more feminine, relaxed blazer. And now I’m like, no, I want, like, the true menswear blazers I was wearing sort of ironically before. Now I feel like it’s, like, right on trend.
Marge<\/strong> Yeah, it’s\u2014I think there are some pieces that, for whatever cosmic reason\u2014and this could be a little too, like, woo-woo\u2014but, like, that we hold on to, that, like, whether they were worth a lot or, like, we paid a lot for them, or they have that, like, sentimental value, or that, like, potential, or just, like, classic pieces that you could do so much with, that, like, wardrobe warrior that can do so many different things with it, that we hold on to. That\u2014
Liz<\/strong> Yeah.
Marge<\/strong> \u2014like, I, I was joking with\u2014with my dad a couple months ago because in his closet are these suits that he had made for him back in the ’70s, when suits were made specifically for people. And he has a full, like, madras suit. He has a, like\u2014
Liz<\/strong> Oh my God.
Marge<\/strong> \u2014full linen suit, and they’re beautifully made, and they fit him for the first time in 50 years. And he did this little, like, try-on moment that was, like, just so funny. But there are styles that I could totally see someone wearing now. And\u2014
Liz<\/strong> Mm-hmm.
Marge<\/strong> \u2014like, the\u2014the trends and\u2014and things that, like, I’m\u2014I’m seeing a lot of, like, the big wide-leg pants and\u2014and, like, the ribbed henleys and things with, like, detailed collars and cuffs. Like, that totally screams stuff that, like, my mom and dad would wear back in the ’70s that we have photos of, that, like\u2014but with, like, a cool, modern twist, you know, now\u2014
Liz<\/strong> Mm-hmm.
Marge<\/strong> \u2014or\u2014or slightly different fabrication, that it is kind of cool that it’s, like, a through line of\u2014of expression and\u2014and history throughout it, that, like, it’s just fun inspiration all around, that it is sort of cyclical and\u2014and comes back around. So some things are meant\u2014
Liz<\/strong> Right.
Marge<\/strong> \u2014to stay in our closets for\u2014for years. And then there are others\u2014
Liz<\/strong> Mm-hmm.
Marge<\/strong> \u2014that are like, please, please, let me go.

Marge<\/strong> So I wanted to sh\u2014I wanted to sort of talk through, is there anything from the, like\u2014I don’t know\u2014of the, like, 15, 20 years ago, before we sort of, like, move on to current trends that we’re seeing now? Like, or is there anything in your wardrobe from 15, 20 years ago that you, like, either still have around or that you would bring back specifically? I know we talked about, like, plaid. Any\u2014I don’t know, like, any trend? Like, I, I had joked with Maloree about, like, corduroy pants. I don’t think I would wear corduroy pants again. But, like, I did just\u2014

Marge<\/strong> \u2014add this, like, gorgeous burgundy corduroy button-up shirt to my, like, cart the other day.

Marge<\/strong> And so some of the, like, textures and fabrications that I vividly remember from that, like, high school-college era are back again. But I think I can do it differently. And also, you have, like, 15, 20 years of confidence, of life experience, that, like, I’m so not in my head the same way as I was then, that I kind of want to do it justice, you know, and be like, I’m gonna wear that outfit, and I know I’m gonna look cute, and, like, I’m gonna like how I feel in it and how I look in it. Where back then it was just like, my God, I feel like\u2014
Maloree<\/strong> Mm-hmm.

Marge<\/strong> \u2014a total poser.
Liz<\/strong> I think one thing I’m sort of\u2014definitely thinking a lot about footwear right now, and I don’t know why, but I am. And I think one trend, or one thing from sort of before, that I’m interested in trying is a moccasin. So maybe it’s because I went hard into a boat shoe in the summer, and I feel like\u2014
Marge<\/strong> Yeah. Yeah.
Liz<\/strong> \u2014a moccasin is maybe the fall version of the boat shoe.
Marge<\/strong> Yeah.
Liz<\/strong> I also am really loving suede right now, and so that’s\u2014

Liz<\/strong> \u2014something. But, like, my earlier version of the moccasin was like\u2014this is so embarrassing, but you got to own it\u2014it was like the knee-high, or like right below my knee, Minnetonka with all the fringe. Three\u2014

Marge<\/strong> And I was of the era that layered multiple with a denim skirt. And\u2014

Marge<\/strong> \u2014I did also just order myself a collared, like, sweater this morning\u2014

Marge<\/strong> \u2014that I thought was kind of funky and different, but, like, had that kind of, like, polo collar to it that, like, I don’t know if I’m gonna like it. I ordered it, like, very oversized, and for what it’s worth, it has, like, the Green Bay Packers on it. And so I ordered it to, like, bridge out my\u2014my fashion for watching football this season. But I don’t\u2014I would, like, wear, like, a button-up car\u2014like, collared shirt, no problem. But something about, like, a pullover with a collar feels, like, very 2005.

Marge<\/strong> \u2014something about the, like, short-sleeve\u2014even, like, the short-sleeve, like, mock-neck sweaters that I’ve been seeing\u2014

Marge<\/strong> \u2014feel a little, I don’t know, maybe they’re, like, too trendy or, like, too of a certain era for me that I can’t\u2014can’t get around to. The layered tank over a T-shirt. Maloree, you actually wore an outfit, like, the cute little, like\u2014

Marge<\/strong> \u2014babydoll dress over a T-shirt recently, and it looked so good.
Maloree<\/strong> Yeah, and that took me, like, a really\u2014it took me convincing because I put it on at first, and I was like, okay, I kind of like this. But then I also\u2014it, like, instantly took me back to middle school, and I was like, do I look like a child in this?
Marge<\/strong> It was so cute.
Maloree<\/strong> And my mom was like\u2014
Maloree<\/strong> No, it’s so cute.
Liz<\/strong> It was so cute.
Maloree<\/strong> And I was like, okay, okay, I’ll wear it. But I did\u2014I\u2014it took, like, a lot of mental gymnastics to be like, okay, this is not a middle-school outfit. This is, like, a grown-up version of it. And I was\u2014I definitely am gonna wear it again, but it\u2014it was definitely a throwback for me, for sure.
Marge<\/strong> Yeah. It feels like some\u2014some of this is\u2014I think I said this to both of you at some point this week\u2014like, being back\u2014being back home and\u2014and fashion and getting ready and whatever felt very different than my life here in New York. And it felt like I was, like, cosplaying a different era of my life, or, like, I was in, like, soft shorts and a T-shirt and, like, it was summertime. So it kind of felt like I\u2014like, out of col\u2014like, like out of college or out of high school, like, having the summer to whatever. But I’m also, like, almost 38\u2014
Maloree<\/strong> Mm-hmm.
Marge<\/strong> \u2014working full-time and doing, like, adult healthcare things. And I’m like, wait a minute, like, how old am I? I\u2014I, like, started to have an existential crisis. But finding, like\u2014I then got a Dia & Co. box, and I tried on stuff that I, like, can’t wait to wear if I decide to go into the office or, like, if I’m gonna meet up with friends, and just things that, like, I can easily see wearing now in\u2014in my, like, normal life here, that I’m like, okay, okay, yep, that’s who I am. That’s my identity. I feel\u2014I feel fine playing with it. And that babydoll dress over the white T-shirt, Mal, looked so cute that I was like, that’s a trend. Like, that is totally present now, but also, I very much remember it\u2014
Maloree<\/strong> Yeah.
Marge<\/strong> \u2014and\u2014and thinking, like, I could never wear this then, but, like, tried to and hated it then, but, like, always loved seeing it on other people.
Maloree<\/strong> Mm-hmm. Same. That was\u2014
Marge<\/strong> I love that.
Maloree<\/strong> \u2014that was, like, how I felt when I put it on. I was like, this looks like something people wore when I was in, like, middle school, and\u2014but I never did because it just\u2014I don’t know, I didn’t have the confidence to do it. And so it\u2014it was definitely, like, a throwback, for sure.
