Three Ways To Level Up Your Summer Style With Plus-Size Swimsuit Cover-Ups

Give a whole new sense of purpose to your swimsuit with these chic and easy cover-up styles.

One of my favorite things about great plus-size swimwear is it’s versatility! From boldly colored one-pieces to chic printed tankinis, swimwear is as much about creating a style moment as it is about going swimming. Summer is the perfect opportunity to get creative with your swimsuits and show-off your personal style. And a fabulous plus-size swimsuit cover-up can take your favorite swimsuit from “that’s looks nice on you” to “WOW.” Aside from being a practical way to conceal the goods as you make your way to the water, cover-ups give a whole new sense of purpose to the swimsuit. You don’t have to wait for white sandy beaches or turquoise waters to make a statement in your plus-size swimwear. With some simple cover-up styles and the bold chic pieces on dia.com you can wear your favorite swimsuit just about anywhere this summer. Here’s how to do it!

The Long And Short Of It All

Shorts are a classic cover-up choice and an easy way to take your swimsuit to the next level. These french terry lounge shorts have a sporty vibe with their relaxed fit and drawstring waist—they pair easily with chunky sandals or sneakers. This outfit is casual and just the right combo for a jog or walk down the beach before cooling off in the water. If your day plans are more along the lines of styling and profiling down the boardwalk or if you’re foregoing the water all together and just want to take your new suit out for a spin, plus-size denim shorts complement any piece. High-waisted jean shorts will highlight the chic print of your bikini top. Going out at night? Try a white short styled with the Andie Swim Malibu One-Piece and wedges or heels. Trust me, no one will care that your ribbed “top” is really a swimsuit when they see you looking that good.

Going With The Flow

Skirts sometimes get overlooked as swimsuit cover-ups and I am just not sure why. I bought a stunning, gold multiway suit that tied into any style, I couldn’t bear to ruin it with salt water or chlorine. So, I popped on my favorite floral pencil skirt, some wedge sandals and hit the dance floor- back in the day when going out dancing was a thing. The point is, skirts are a worthy plus-size cover-up especially a gloriously flowy printed wrap skirt like this. It effortlessly creates an eye-catching outfit and slips on and off in T-minus 2 seconds (pssst, this is a faux wrap-you’re welcome). For a more casual look swap out the printed wrap for a fringed hem plus-size denim skirt and strappy flat sandals.

Trend Or Bust!

Trend seekers already know that an oversized button-down shirt is a must-have this season and it works as a swim cover-up, too. These breezy shirt dresses have been all over the fashion space for spring/summer 2021 from the runways of Valentino to the Dia Shop (yes we’ve got them, too!). Easy styling at its best, you don’t have to worry about coordinating colors with your swimsuit. You can throw this piece on over any swimsuit style with heeled sandals or slippers for a complete look. Accessorize with a skinny belt and wide brim hat and transport yourself to the tropical vacation of your dreams.

The truth is no matter what you choose you just can’t go wrong with a plus-size swimsuit cover-up. Have fun with it and tag us on IG with #READYWITHDIA.

Three inclusive swimwear brands that are changing the game.

Is that you warmer weather and longer days? These last few weeks (and hello, year) have felt like you would never arrive! Looking forward to more sunshine and (hopefully) splashing around in the closest ocean, pool, lake, or whatever body of water you can access is enough to put a new pep in our step. Something about being in a swimsuit under the warm sun is so freeing. It’s like a free pass to jump, play, dance and move your body.

But freedom is the last thing on the brain when your trendy plus-size swimsuit doesn’t fit well. It’s just plain old uncomfortable to be adjusting your swimsuit every five minutes. A nip slip here or a wedgie there can be enough to make you want to run and hide—and no one has time for that! We’ve all been in the house way too long, so when the time finally comes to wear a cute plus-size swimsuit, we are not wasting time on ill-fitting pieces. We are #READYWITHDIA for swimwear that fits—we absolutely deserve it!

The great news is that more brands than ever are creating innovative ways to ensure swimsuit options for plus-size women are functional and fashionable. Women-owned plus size swimwear brands are taking over the fashion space right now and we are here for it! Who knows better than a woman, what makes a great swimsuit.  So Dia has partnered with some of the best  women-owned plus-size swimwear brands that just get fit! No matter what kind of support or coverage you are looking for from your swimsuit, they’ve got you covered. Yes, pun intended.

Andie Swim

We love Andie Swim because they know that enjoying yourself comes naturally when your swimsuit fits perfectly! Their swimsuit line includes varying levels of support for a range of bust sizes with adjustable straps and removable soft cups. The ability to adjust the straps of your swimsuit is a huge advantage when it comes to fit and freedom. It can mean the difference between running with your hands in the air into the ocean, and having to cradle your boobs so they don’t pop out of your suit! And the removable cups let you adjust your swimsuit’s level of structure to your preference.

If you are someone who likes your swimsuit to come with a little extra smoothing, then the ribbing fabric is perfect. This is Andie Swim’s most compressive fabric – ideal for extra support and high-impact swims by keeping everything in place. It also looks really great when worn as a bodysuit paired with jean shorts and sandals or sneakers. With all of this support and comfort you might just forget you are even wearing a swimsuit at all.

Nomads Swimwear

Plus-size model and Nomads Swimwear founder Taylor Long was motivated to create her brand when she got tired of seeing the matronly plus-size swimsuit options available. Her trips to Sydney, Australia inspired this bold chic collection that doesn’t skimp on support either. The power mesh inserts of this one-piece swimsuit are just that—powerful! The 4-way stretch has smoothing capabilities that add support. Plus, the sheerness of the mesh is perfect for a little peek-a-boo moment. Now I know you are thinking, how can a one-shoulder swimsuit support my bust? Well lucky for us, as a plus-size model, Taylor has thought of everything. This one piece is fully lined with a power mesh shelf bra and a thin rubber strip that adheres to the skin to eliminate slippage. No more sacrificing bold style for a supportive fit.

Kitty and Vibe

Say goodbye to the dreaded saggy bottom or even worse—the swimsuit wedgie! Kitty and Vibe is revolutionizing the way we think about the booty. Their “Kitty Size” measurement accounts for both hips and butt with two sizes that make finding the right swimsuit bottoms for your plus-size bikini a breeze for every shape.  For those amongst us with a fuller bottom, their “2” range provides ample coverage. The smaller bottom sisters can avoid sagging by choosing a size from their “1” range. And if you are in between or not sure where you fall on the booty spectrum, start by testing out the “1” range. No matter the size of your booty Kitty and Vibes’ seamless swimsuit construction fits comfortably with no pinching or squeezing – the relief is monumental! Their inclusive sizing doesn’t stop there, the brand also carries cup sizes ranging from A to G. Look out for more styles dropping on dia.com in April.

Chrissy Yarde

Nomads Swimwear is inspired by founder Taylor Long’s travels all over the world. Since we’re dreaming of a warm vacation, we tapped the founder of plus-size swimsuit brand Nomads Swimwear to see the top 5 beach destinations she recommends visiting (when we’re clear to travel) and why. Until then, these are going on our wanderlust Pinterest board.

Sydney, Australia

When did you first visit and why?

I visited a friend who lives in AUS in November of 2018 and we did a mini trip to Sydney.

What do you love about it?

It’s so scenic and beautiful, especially the beaches. It’s beauty inspired the prints for our inaugural Sydney Collection. It also has amazing food!

What is one must-see or must-do you’d recommend to anyone going for the first time?

One must-see is for sure the Coogee to Bondi coastal cliff walk. It’s about a four mile walk around the coast of Sydney and along the way there are several beaches you can stop at with the final stop being at the Icebergs pool (the ultimate Instagram photo spot) and Bondi beach!

Melbourne, Australia

When did you first visit and why?

I visited there in August of 2019 because I was there modeling.

What do you love about it?

On top of the fact that it has great beaches, it also has the most amazing wineries and vineyards like the Chandon vineyard.

What is one must-see or must-do you’d recommend to anyone going for the first time?

One must see is the Mornington Peninsula National Park. It has a hiking trail but also has a pretty private beach that is stunning!

Nassau, Bahamas

When did you first visit and why?

I went on vacation there a few years ago.

What do you love about it?

You really can’t beat the bright clear, blue water and white sandy beaches. Plus it’s a quick flight from the East Coast which is always a plus!

What is one must-see or must-do you’d recommend to anyone going for the first time?

I recommend going to Saunders Beach. It’s gorgeous and great for swimming if you’re a big ocean swimmer.

St. Simons Island, Georgia

When did you first visit and why?

I visited a couple weeks ago to shoot our new collections and was blown away by how beautiful it was.

What do you love about it?

For starters, I love the fact that it was within driving distance of my home! I love traveling abroad, but since that’s not an option right now, it’s nice to know you can still go to beautiful places and make a road trip out of it! Also the whole place is adorable. Think posh, beach town with amazing beach houses. It also has great food. If you go, checkout The Half Shell and Sea Salt Healthy Kitchen!

What is one must-see or must-do you’d recommend to anyone going for the first time?

One must see is definitely Driftwood Beach which is about 30 minutes away from St.Simons. It is the coolest beach I’ve ever seen. It has tons of huge fallen trees that serve as a gorgeous backdrop, hence why we shot there for our collection that launches in May!

Honeymoon Island, Dunedin, FL

When did you first visit and why?

My parents have a condo down in Tampa, so I’ve been going to visit them there for the last few years and they always take me to this beach.

What do you love about it?

This is another one I love, because it’s accessible by car or plane since it’s still not safe to travel abroad.

What is one must-see or must-do you’d recommend to anyone going for the first time?

I recommend renting a kayak to take around the bay. It’s a fun time and you can pack some food and relax and lay out on the little mini islands in the bay.
